The Georgian style placed great importance on a symmetrical layout of windows and doors. A center chimney or two symmetrical end wall chimneys were found in the typical Georgian four-room layout. A central hallway ran front to rear through the house and a highly visible staircase ascended to the next floor. This plan created privacy that earlier capes and colonials did not afford.
