The Greek revival style was in favor from the 1830s to the 1870s. Columns, porticos and pediments were used to closely mimic the Greek temples for which the period is named. Emphasis remained on the front entry and entries were often recessed and flanked by sidelites rather then a fanlite or transom. It was common to see the gable end, or pediment, facing the street with the entry placed to one side.
